I painted this small artwork at the beginning of the first Covid lockdown in 2020. I was prompted to do this as at that time Italy was in the grip of Covid and things were looking really grim. The painting was my way of staying positive as none of us knew when this thing was going to end.
I’d previously visited Florence in 2003 with two of my sisters Dee and Jules. We were incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to visit the Cathedral di Santa Maria del Fiore and climb right up into the roof of the Duomo (Cupola di Brunelleschi) which sits right in the city centre. The view from the top was spectacular. Unfortunately my sister Jules was unable to make the climb to the top the Cathedral that day which was such a shame. I took a photograph to capture the view, and this painting preserves a memory of that special weekend with my sisters.
A weekend of Pizza, ice cream, culture and art. A feast for the senses!
