The day I found peace in a box of paints 🎨
Around 12 years ago, I discovered a very easy way to turn the volume down on my worries.
We've all been there, haven't we? Annoying bosses, money worries, relationship breakdowns, health issues. Add to that sad news stories, climate change, wars. The list goes on.
Sometimes, it all gets a bit much! πŸ˜†
But one day, I discovered a new, prestine box of paints in the cupboard under the stairs. After a bit of encouragement from a friend, I cleared some space to paint - something I'd been avoiding for decades!🀦
Four hours later, I'd discovered the secret to pressing pause and muting all my negative thoughts. Thus far, all the talking in the world hadn't resolved any of it.
By spending time creating, I'd reclaimed some control over these thoughts and took a big deep breath.
For the first time in months, I experienced some peace and tranquillity. I'd found a sanctuary from my chattering mind. πŸ™
This is why I love this quote from Elizabeth Gilbert's Book 'Big Magic'.
Instead of being at the mercy of events, Immersing myself in craft is the antidote, the one thing I can do to give myself a break, press pause, and let go for a while.
I realised (eventually 🀦) that life will always throw me a curve ball. And I can't just 'Doom scroll' my way out of it. In fact, our phones are probably making us feel worse.
What craft or creative thing could you find the time for to take your mind off some 'stuff'? 🎨
